If you are homeless or about to lose your housing, help is available today. Follow these steps in order.

STEP 1 β€” Call 2-1-1 (Most Important)

β€œI am homeless and need emergency shelter.”

211 can help you find:

If you don’t have phone minutes, most public phones and shelters allow free calls to 211.


STEP 2 β€” If It’s After Hours or an Emergency

If shelters are closed or you are in danger:

β€œI am homeless and unsafe and need emergency assistance.”

This is appropriate if:


STEP 3 β€” Walk In to a Local Shelter or Day Center

If you can travel safely, go in person.

Ask the front desk or staff:

β€œDo you have an open bed tonight, or can you refer me to one?”

If they are full, ask:

β€œWho else should I contact tonight?”

Shelters often know about last-minute openings that don’t show online.


STEP 4 β€” If You Are in Crisis or Feeling Overwhelmed
